Why Charge Your EV at Home?

Home charging is by far the most convenient and cost-effective way to keep your electric vehicle topped up. Rather than planning trips to public charging stations and paying premium rates of 60-80p per kWh, you can plug in when you arrive home and wake up to a fully charged car every morning. Home charging on a standard electricity tariff costs around 7-10p per kWh on an overnight rate, which translates to just 2-3p per mile driven.

A dedicated home EV charger is significantly faster and safer than using a standard 3-pin plug. A 7 kW home charger fully charges most electric cars in 6-8 hours overnight, compared to 20+ hours from a domestic socket. Dedicated chargers also include important safety features such as residual current protection, temperature monitoring, and weatherproof enclosures that a standard plug simply cannot provide.

EV adoption is accelerating: there are now approximately 1.97 million pure battery electric vehicles on UK roads (March 2026), with new BEV registrations hitting a record 23.4% market share in 2025. The ZEV Mandate requires 33% of new car sales to be zero emission in 2026, rising to 100% by 2035. Installing a home charger now adds value to your property and ensures you are ready — estate agents report EV charging is increasingly a buyer priority across South Yorkshire.

Solar-Powered EV Charging

Pairing a smart EV charger with solar panels is one of the most intelligent energy decisions a homeowner can make. A solar-integrated EV charger automatically diverts surplus solar energy to your car, meaning you can charge your vehicle for absolutely nothing. On a typical sunny day, a 10-panel solar system generates enough surplus energy to add 30-50 miles of range to your EV, covering the average UK daily commute entirely with free solar electricity.

Smart chargers with solar diverter functionality monitor your solar generation in real time and adjust the charging speed to match the available surplus. When the sun is shining and your home appliances are not using all the electricity your panels are producing, the excess flows into your car instead of being exported to the grid for a few pence. The charger automatically pauses if a cloud passes over or household demand increases, then resumes when surplus energy is available again.

Add a battery storage system to the mix and you have the ultimate home energy ecosystem. Store solar energy during the day, power your home in the evening from the battery, and charge your EV overnight from stored solar energy or cheap off-peak grid electricity. The result is near-zero energy bills for both your home and your car.

Types of EV Chargers

We install a range of EV chargers to suit different needs, from basic home charging points to advanced smart chargers with solar integration and commercial multi-bay solutions.

7 kW Smart Chargers

The standard and most popular choice for home EV charging. A 7 kW charger is the fastest single-phase charger available and fully charges most electric cars in 6-8 hours overnight. Smart features include app control, scheduled charging to take advantage of off-peak tariffs, energy usage monitoring, and solar integration capability. Compatible with all electric vehicles.

Best for: Most homes | From £800 installed

Solar-Integrated Chargers

Designed specifically for homes with solar panels, these chargers feature built-in solar diverter technology that automatically uses surplus solar energy to charge your EV. They switch between solar-only charging, mixed solar and grid charging, and full grid charging depending on available solar generation. The Sigenergy system combines battery storage and EV charging in a single unit for the ultimate integrated solution.

Best for: Homes with solar panels | From £1,000 installed

22 kW Commercial Chargers

For businesses, workplaces, and properties with three-phase electricity supply, 22 kW chargers offer significantly faster charging speeds. They can add 100 miles of range in just 1-2 hours, making them ideal for employee parking, customer charging at retail premises, fleet vehicles, and hospitality businesses. We also install multi-bay commercial charging solutions for car parks and business premises.

Business Owners

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The UK government's Workplace Charging Scheme has been extended until 31 March 2027. Eligible organisations can claim up to £350–£500 per socket (maximum 40 sockets) toward the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints at their premises.

Eligible applicants include businesses, charities, and public sector organisations. Education institutions benefit from an enhanced grant of up to £2,000 per socket. The scheme covers both the chargepoint unit and installation costs.

Combined with commercial solar panels, workplace EV chargers powered by your own solar energy dramatically reduce running costs and demonstrate your environmental commitment to employees and customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We Have Answers.

Everything you need to know about solar panels, battery storage, and working with ElectriFusion Solutions.

01
A home EV charger installation typically costs between £800 and £1,200 depending on the charger model and the complexity of the electrical work required. This includes the charger unit, installation, and any necessary consumer unit upgrades. Smart chargers that integrate with solar panels may cost slightly more but offer significant long-term savings by allowing you to charge with free solar energy.
02
Yes — pairing solar panels with a smart EV charger is one of the most cost-effective ways to run an electric car. A typical solar PV system generates enough excess energy during the day to add 30–50 miles of range to your EV daily, completely free. Some smart chargers automatically divert excess solar energy to your car, maximising free charging without manual intervention.
03
A standard home EV charger installation typically takes 2–4 hours. This includes mounting the charger, running cabling from your consumer unit, and final testing and commissioning. If a consumer unit upgrade is needed, this may add an additional hour or two. Our NAPIT-registered electricians handle the entire process.
04
For a dedicated home EV charger, you generally need off-street parking (a driveway, garage, or private car park). If you park on the street, there are some cable management solutions available, but these have limitations. During your free survey, our team assesses your parking situation and recommends the best charging solution.
05
We typically recommend 7kW smart chargers for home use — they fully charge most electric cars overnight (6–8 hours) and offer smart features like scheduled charging, solar integration, and app control. For homes with solar panels, we specifically recommend chargers with solar diverter functionality to maximise free charging. For commercial properties, we can install faster 22kW chargers.
