Domestic Air Conditioning
UK summers are getting warmer — the Met Office recorded a UK record of 40.3°C in July 2022, the first time 40°C had been exceeded in recorded history. The Met Office projects there is now a 1 in 10 chance of the UK exceeding 40°C in any given year by 2030. South Yorkshire recorded temperatures exceeding 38°C during the same heatwave, with hospitals reporting a sharp rise in heat-related illness. Demand for home air conditioning in the region has grown significantly since. Whether you need to cool a home office for comfortable remote working, a bedroom for restful sleep during hot nights, or an entire floor of your house, ElectriFusion Solutions designs and installs domestic air conditioning systems tailored to your property and budget.
Modern domestic air conditioning units are remarkably quiet, energy-efficient, and aesthetically discreet. The indoor wall-mounted unit blends into your room with a sleek, low-profile design, while the outdoor compressor unit is positioned to minimise any noise impact on you or your neighbours. Most single-room installations are completed in a single day with minimal disruption.
Every system we install is a reversible heat pump, meaning it cools your home in summer and provides highly efficient heating in winter. In heating mode, air conditioning units produce 3-4 units of heat for every unit of electricity consumed, making them far more efficient than traditional electric heaters and an excellent supplementary heating source. Pair your air conditioning with solar panels to power it with free electricity from your roof.
Commercial Air Conditioning
Comfortable working environments directly impact productivity, staff retention, and customer satisfaction. ElectriFusion Solutions installs and maintains commercial air conditioning systems for offices, shops, restaurants, hotels, gyms, medical practices, and all other commercial premises. We design systems that deliver consistent climate control across your entire premises while minimising energy consumption and running costs.
For commercial properties, we offer a full range of system types from wall-mounted splits for individual offices and meeting rooms to ceiling cassette units for open-plan spaces and ducted systems for larger buildings where concealed installation is preferred. Our engineers calculate the precise cooling and heating capacity required for each zone, taking into account room size, occupancy levels, heat-generating equipment, solar gain from windows, and insulation levels.
All commercial installations include comprehensive commissioning, user training for your facilities team, and full documentation. We offer ongoing maintenance contracts that include scheduled service visits, emergency call-outs, and F-gas compliance record keeping. A well-maintained commercial air conditioning system runs more efficiently, lasts longer, and costs less to operate over its lifetime.
Air Conditioning System Types
We install a full range of air conditioning system types to suit every property and requirement. Our REFCOM-regulated engineers recommend the most appropriate solution during a free site survey.
Wall-Mounted Split Systems
The most common type for single-room cooling and heating. A compact indoor unit mounts high on the wall and connects to an outdoor compressor via refrigerant pipework. Ideal for bedrooms, home offices, living rooms, and small commercial spaces. Quiet operation from just 20 decibels. Available in capacities from 2.5 kW to 8 kW.
Multi-Split Systems
One outdoor unit serves multiple indoor units across different rooms, each with independent temperature control. Perfect for cooling and heating several rooms without multiple outdoor units. Multi-splits can connect 2-5 indoor units to a single compressor, keeping your property's exterior neat and the installation cost-effective. Available in wall-mounted, ceiling cassette, and floor-standing indoor unit configurations.
Ceiling Cassette Units
Recessed into a suspended ceiling, cassette units distribute air in four directions for even temperature coverage across large rooms. Preferred for offices, retail spaces, restaurants, and commercial environments where a wall-mounted unit is not appropriate. They deliver high cooling and heating capacity with minimal visual impact on the interior design.
Ducted Systems
Completely concealed within the ceiling void, ducted systems deliver conditioned air through discreet grilles and diffusers. They are the most aesthetically clean option and the best choice for whole-building climate control. Ducted systems are common in premium commercial fit-outs, hotels, medical facilities, and high-end residential properties where visible units are not desired.
Which Air Conditioning Brand Is Best?
We install all major brands and recommend the right one for your property and budget. Key efficiency ratings: SEER (seasonal cooling efficiency) and SCOP (seasonal heating efficiency) — higher is better.
| Brand | Top SEER Rating | Top SCOP Rating | Typical Installed Price (single room) | Best Known For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daikin | 9.54 | 5.10 | £1,800–£2,800 | Premium build quality, global market leader, exceptional reliability |
| Mitsubishi Electric | 9.52 | 5.20 | £1,800–£2,800 | Ultra-quiet Hyper Heating (R32), UK market leader for domestic installs |
| LG | 9.40 | 5.10 | £1,500–£2,400 | Dual Inverter technology, ThinQ smart home integration, strong warranty |
| Samsung | 9.80 | 5.10 | £1,500–£2,400 | WindFree cooling (no direct cold airflow), SmartThings integration, modern design |
| Fujitsu | 8.50 | 5.10 | £1,600–£2,500 | Excellent cold-climate performance, very competitive commercial pricing |
SEER/SCOP ratings from manufacturers' best-rated domestic split-system models (2024/25). Installed prices for a 2.5–3.5 kW single-room system in South Yorkshire, including commissioning. Prices vary by property access, pipework run length, and model chosen. All ratings use EU Energy Labelling methodology.
How Much Does Air Conditioning Cost to Run?
~10p/hr
A+++ heat pump AC (SCOP 5.0)
A modern 3.5 kW unit in heating mode at 24p/kWh electricity, delivering 5 kW of heat. Equivalent to ~2p per kWh of heat delivered.
~17p/hr
A+ rated system (SCOP 3.0)
An older or budget A+ system running at the same 3.5 kW output consumes significantly more electricity for the same heat output.
~25p/hr
Direct electric heater (SCOP 1.0)
A traditional 3.5 kW electric heater or storage heater operates at 100% efficiency — far less efficient than any modern heat pump system.
Running cost estimates based on 24p/kWh electricity (Ofgem Q2 2026 price cap). Actual costs depend on how often and at what temperature the system runs. Pair with solar panels to reduce running costs to near zero during daylight hours.
Domestic Air Conditioning Costs (Fully Installed)
Prices vary by system type, brand, and property layout. All prices include supply, installation, pipework, electrical connection, commissioning, and F-gas compliance documentation.
| System Type | Coverage | Total Installed | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single split system | 1 room | £1,200–£2,700 | Bedroom, home office, or living room cooling |
| Multi-split system | 2–3 rooms | £3,000–£6,000 | Multiple bedrooms or open-plan living areas |
| Multi-split system | 4+ rooms | £5,500–£9,000 | Larger homes, whole-floor coverage |
| Ducted system | Whole home | £5,000–£15,000 | New builds, renovations with ceiling void access |
Heat pump mode can reduce winter heating bills by 30–40% vs gas. Full summer season running costs (8 hrs/day, June–September): £150–£250 for an efficient split system. Pair with solar panels to power your AC from free solar electricity.
Why Air Conditioning Is No Longer a Luxury in the UK
The UK recorded 40.3°C in July 2022 (Coningsby, Lincolnshire) — the first time temperatures exceeded 40°C in recorded history. The Met Office projects a 50-50 chance of another 40°C day within the next 12 years. By 2060, a year like 2022 will be considered "average."
Air conditioning adoption in UK households rose from 3% in 2011 to 20% in 2022. Indoor overheating complaints increased from 20% to 82% of UK homeowners. Heat-related deaths in the UK currently average approximately 2,000 per year and are projected to triple to ~7,000 per year by mid-century.
Modern air conditioning systems also function as highly efficient heat pumps in winter, providing heating at a fraction of the cost of gas or direct electric heating. A system installed for summer cooling can reduce your winter heating bills by 30–40%.
Planning Permission for Air Conditioning
Most domestic air conditioning installations qualify as permitted development and do not require planning permission. As of May 2025, permitted development rights now explicitly cover equipment for both heating and cooling purposes.
No planning needed if:
- Outdoor unit volume does not exceed 0.6m³
- Not mounted on a pitched roof
- Not facing a public road
- At least 1 metre from any boundary
- Property is not listed or in a conservation area
Listed Buildings & Conservation Areas
Properties in conservation areas or listed buildings require planning consent. Contact your local planning authority before installation. Our team can advise during your free site survey.
REFCOM Regulated for Your Safety
Air conditioning systems contain fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) that are controlled under UK legislation. Any company that installs, maintains, or decommissions air conditioning equipment must be REFCOM-registered to demonstrate compliance with F-gas regulations. ElectriFusion Solutions holds full REFCOM registration, ensuring every installation and service we carry out meets the highest safety and environmental standards.
Our REFCOM registration means our engineers are fully trained and certified in the safe handling of refrigerant gases. We maintain proper records of all refrigerant used, recovered, and recycled, as required by law. When you choose a REFCOM-regulated installer like ElectriFusion Solutions, you can be confident that your air conditioning system is installed safely, operates efficiently, and complies with all environmental regulations.
Alongside our REFCOM registration, ElectriFusion Solutions is also NAPIT registered for all electrical work associated with air conditioning installations. This dual accreditation means we handle every aspect of the installation in-house, from the refrigerant pipework and commissioning to the electrical supply and connection. You deal with one company from start to finish, with no need to coordinate separate contractors.
Maintenance Contracts
Regular maintenance is essential for keeping your air conditioning system running efficiently, reliably, and safely. A well-maintained system uses less energy, lasts longer, delivers better air quality, and is far less likely to break down when you need it most. ElectriFusion Solutions offers tailored maintenance contracts for both domestic and commercial air conditioning systems.
