Planning in Rotherham: 28 conservation areas
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is the planning authority, and it has designated 28 conservation areas. They range from Rotherham Town Centre and Moorgate to Dinnington, Swinton and Greasbrough, and villages such as Laughton-en-le-Morthen, Harthill and Thorpe Salvin.
A reverse-cycle unit on a house is permitted development under Class G when it is not used solely for cooling, stays within the size and noise limits and is not on a pitched roof. Inside a conservation area its position matters most: a wall or roof that fronts a highway is ruled out, and so is anywhere nearer the highway than the house. Listed buildings are a separate case.
