Solar PV

How much do solar panels cost in 2026?
The cost of a domestic solar panel system varies depending on the size of your property and energy usage. A typical 10-panel system starts from around £5,000–£7,000 including installation. With 0% VAT on domestic solar panels in the UK and the Smart Export Guarantee paying you for excess energy, most homeowners see a return on investment within 6–8 years. ElectriFusion Solutions offers free, no-obligation surveys with exact pricing for your property.
Are solar panels worth it in South Yorkshire?
South Yorkshire receives around 1,400 hours of sunshine per year — more than enough for solar panels to generate significant electricity. A typical household can reduce electricity bills by 60% or more with solar panels and battery storage. With current energy prices and the 0% VAT incentive, solar panels in South Yorkshire typically pay for themselves within 6–8 years, then provide free electricity for another 20+ years.
Do solar panels work on cloudy days?
Yes, solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunshine. While they produce more energy on bright sunny days, modern solar panels like the AIKO panels we install still generate meaningful electricity on overcast days. In the UK, solar panels typically produce around 80–85% of their rated output annually when factoring in all weather conditions.
How many solar panels do I need for my home?
The number of panels depends on your electricity usage, roof size, and orientation. A typical 3-bedroom semi-detached home usually needs 8–12 panels (3.5–5.3kW system). A larger 4-bedroom detached home might need 12–16 panels (5.3–7kW). Our free home survey includes a detailed energy assessment to design the right system for your specific needs and usage patterns.
What is the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)?
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a UK government scheme that pays you for excess solar electricity you export back to the grid. Energy suppliers with 150,000+ customers must offer SEG tariffs. Rates vary between suppliers, typically 3–15p per kWh exported. Combined with the savings from using your own solar electricity, the SEG helps solar panels pay for themselves faster.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels?
In most cases, residential solar panels are considered permitted development and don't require planning permission, provided the panels don't protrude more than 200mm from the roof surface and aren't on a listed building or in a conservation area. If your property has restrictions, our team can advise on the planning process during your free survey.
How long does a solar panel installation take?
A typical residential solar installation takes 1–2 days depending on system size and complexity. This includes mounting the panels, installing the inverter and any battery storage, connecting to your consumer unit, and final testing. Some of our installations — including systems with 21 panels and 2 batteries — have been completed in a single day.
What warranty do you offer on solar panels?
ElectriFusion Solutions offers industry-leading warranties: up to 30 years on solar panels, lifetime warranty on inverters and batteries, and a 15-year workmanship warranty covering our installation. This means you're protected for the full life of your system — not just the first few years.
Is there still 0% VAT on solar panels?
Yes, as of 2026, domestic solar panel installations in the UK continue to benefit from 0% VAT, making them significantly more affordable than in previous years. This applies to solar panels, battery storage, and related installation costs for residential properties. Commercial installations are subject to standard VAT rates.
What brands of solar panels do you install?
We install AIKO Solar panels as our primary brand — they're one of the highest-efficiency panels available, maximising energy generation from your roof space. For inverters and battery storage, we work with Tesla, Hanchu, Fox ESS, and Sigenergy, selecting the best option for each customer's specific requirements and budget.
Can I get finance for solar panels?
Yes, ElectriFusion Solutions offers consumer finance through Phoenix Financial Consultants Limited (FCA authorised, FRN: 539195). Finance options allow you to spread the cost of your solar installation over monthly payments, often at rates where the monthly finance payment is less than your current electricity bill savings — meaning solar effectively pays for itself from day one.

Battery Storage

Do I need a battery with my solar panels?
While solar panels work without a battery, adding one significantly increases your energy savings. Without a battery, you only use solar electricity when the sun is shining and your panels are generating. A battery stores excess daytime energy for use in the evenings when electricity is most expensive. Most households use 50–70% of their solar generation with a battery, compared to 30–40% without one.
How long do solar batteries last?
Modern lithium-ion solar batteries typically last 10–15 years or more. The batteries we install from Tesla, Hanchu, Fox ESS, and Sigenergy are designed for 6,000–10,000 charge cycles, which translates to 15–25 years of daily use. Our lifetime warranty on batteries gives you complete peace of mind.
Can a solar battery power my home during a power cut?
Yes, if you have a hybrid inverter and battery system. During a power cut, a hybrid system can disconnect from the grid and power your essential appliances using stored battery energy. Not all systems offer this — it depends on the inverter type. Our team designs systems with backup capability if this is important to you.
What size battery do I need?
Battery size depends on your energy usage and solar panel system. A typical UK household uses 8–10kWh per day. A 5kWh battery covers evening usage for most smaller households, while a 10–14kWh battery provides more independence and better backup during outages. Our free survey includes an analysis of your energy usage to recommend the right battery size.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?
Yes, we can retrofit a battery storage system to an existing solar installation. Depending on your current inverter, we may be able to add a battery-compatible unit or install a separate battery inverter. Our team assesses your existing system during a free survey and designs the most cost-effective solution.

EV Chargers

How much does a home EV charger cost?
A home EV charger installation typically costs between £800 and £1,200 depending on the charger model and the complexity of the electrical work required. This includes the charger unit, installation, and any necessary consumer unit upgrades. Smart chargers that integrate with solar panels may cost slightly more but offer significant long-term savings by allowing you to charge with free solar energy.
Can I charge my EV with solar panels?
Yes — pairing solar panels with a smart EV charger is one of the most cost-effective ways to run an electric car. A typical solar PV system generates enough excess energy during the day to add 30–50 miles of range to your EV daily, completely free. Some smart chargers automatically divert excess solar energy to your car, maximising free charging without manual intervention.
How long does it take to install a home EV charger?
A standard home EV charger installation typically takes 2–4 hours. This includes mounting the charger, running cabling from your consumer unit, and final testing and commissioning. If a consumer unit upgrade is needed, this may add an additional hour or two. Our NAPIT-registered electricians handle the entire process.
Do I need off-street parking for an EV charger?
For a dedicated home EV charger, you generally need off-street parking (a driveway, garage, or private car park). If you park on the street, there are some cable management solutions available, but these have limitations. During your free survey, our team assesses your parking situation and recommends the best charging solution.
What type of EV charger do you recommend?
We typically recommend 7kW smart chargers for home use — they fully charge most electric cars overnight (6–8 hours) and offer smart features like scheduled charging, solar integration, and app control. For homes with solar panels, we specifically recommend chargers with solar diverter functionality to maximise free charging. For commercial properties, we can install faster 22kW chargers.

Air Conditioning

How much does air conditioning cost to install at home?
A single-room split air conditioning system typically costs £1,500–£3,000 installed, depending on the unit size and installation complexity. Multi-room systems cost more depending on the number of indoor units. All our installations include the indoor and outdoor units, refrigerant pipework, electrical connections, and commissioning. We provide detailed quotes following a free site survey.
Can air conditioning also heat my home?
Yes, modern air conditioning systems are reversible heat pumps — they can cool your home in summer and heat it in winter. They're extremely energy efficient for heating, typically producing 3–4 units of heat for every unit of electricity consumed. This makes them a cost-effective supplement or alternative to traditional central heating, especially in individual rooms or extensions.
How often does air conditioning need servicing?
We recommend annual servicing for domestic air conditioning systems and biannual servicing for commercial systems. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance, energy efficiency, and air quality. ElectriFusion Solutions offers scheduled maintenance contracts that include annual or biannual service visits, priority emergency response, and discounted repair rates.
Is air conditioning noisy?
Modern split air conditioning systems are remarkably quiet. Indoor units typically operate at 20–30 decibels — quieter than a whisper. Outdoor units are slightly louder but are designed to minimise noise disturbance. Our team positions outdoor units to comply with building regulations and minimise any impact on you or your neighbours.
